Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary
Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the foothills of the Himalayas in West Bengal, India, is a paradise for nature lovers. It is home to various flora and fauna, including several endangered species. The sanctuary was established in 1959 and covers an area of about 250 sq km. The wildlife sanctuary is situated between the Teesta and Mahananda rivers and offers a breathtaking view of the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas.
The sanctuary is home to various wildlife, such as leopards, tigers, elephants, sambar deer, barking deer, wild boar, gaur, and nilgai. More than 270 species of birds have also been recorded in the sanctuary, making it a bird-watchers paradise. The cover also has a wide variety of trees, shrubs and grasses, including Sal, Teak, Bamboo, and Acacia.
