Gurudwara Tambu Sahib is a revered Sikh shrine in the city of Nanded in the Indian state of Punjab. The gurudwara is situated on the banks of the river Godavari and is believed to have been built at the spot where Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth and last Sikh Guru, had pitched his tent (tambu in Punjabi) during his journey towards the South of India.
The gurudwara is also known as Sachkhand Gurudwara, which means the "abode of truth", and is considered one of the most sacred places for Sikhs. The Gurudwara complex covers an area of around 12 acres and includes several buildings, including the main Gurudwara building, a langar hall (community kitchen), a museum, and several other structures.
The main Gurudwara building is beautiful, with a dome-shaped roof, intricate carvings, and wall paintings. The interior of the gurudwara is equally impressive, with a spacious hall for the congregation, where devotional hymns (kirtan) are recited by the Sikh priests (rages).
The langar hall at Gurudwara Tambu Sahib serves free food (langar) to all visitors, irrespective of their caste, creed or religion. This practice of serving free food is an important aspect of Sikhism and is aimed at promoting equality and community service.
The museum at the Gurudwara complex showcases various artefacts related to Sikh history, including manuscripts, weapons, and other objects used by Guru Gobind Singh and other Sikh Gurus.
One of the major attractions of Gurudwara Tambu Sahib is the Takht Sachkhand Shri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib, which is situated within the Gurudwara complex. This is one of the five tickets (seats of authority) of the Sikh religion and is considered the highest temporal authority for Sikhs after the Akal Takht in Amritsar.
The gurudwara attracts devotees from all over the world who come here to pay their respects to Guru Gobind Singh and seek his blessings. The gurudwara is especially crowded during the Hola Mohalla festival, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm by Sikhs, and involves various displays of martial arts (gatka), mock battles, and other cultural events.
