From Pune, trek to Rajmachi Fort
The Rajmachi trekking from Pune is much shorter. You can drive up to Udhewadi village in your car. However, be warned: the 15-kilometre route from Lonavala to Udhewadi is extremely bad, and we recommend taking it only in an SUV or a vehicle with high ground clearance. The journey to the top of the forts takes less than 30 minutes, and the tourism department has built new steps nearly half the way. This is the more convenient route to the top of the forts, but it doesn't give you much of a sense of "trekking." You can also visit Rajmachi waterfall.
Rajmachi Fort's History
The Satavahanas, who established their kingdom soon after the Mauryan Dynasty ended and ruled it until 230 BC, built the mighty Rajmachi Fort. When Shivaji Maharaj took over from the ruler of Bijapur, Adil Shah, in 1657, this kingdom began to gain recognition. The Rajmachi Fort was made defensive during Shivaji's reign, and a few structures were added for battalion purposes. It was under Mughal rule from 1704 to 1705 before the Marathas took control following their victory over Aurangzeb.
The British took over the fort when the Maratha Kingdom declined in the nineteenth century. Rajmachi Fort was designated as an ancient and protected monument in Maharashtra shortly after independence. The Buddhist caves dedicated to the local deity were carved in 200 BC on the western side of the Rajmachi plateau.

On the reservoir's western side is an ancient Shiva temple built in the Hemdpanti style. A cow-head-shaped fountain and a water tank were discovered before the temple.
